Mackinac is a functioning island it as around 80 residents during the winter months. Main street shuts down and only the grocery store remains open. They have a school, cemetery, library, little grocery store and one or two churches. It has an old fort on i,t and has had two major motion pictures filmed there. One of the movies is " a step back in time" which that it is. They have reenactment's at the fort, and at many of the historical homes. Plus the State of Michigan keeps the Governor of Michigan's summer home there, which can be toured on Wednesday's. Many of the homes are bed and breakfast places. Main street on Mackinac had many shops and restaurants, and of course the world famous Mackinac fudge can be found in many shops.
The picture with that has a huge white building, that's the Grand Hotel it always reminds me of the movie "The Shining" LOL. The smaller white home is the Governor's home.
